It was early 2018. A good friend of mine in Winnipeg had a dream about starting a music festival and conference focused on the artists he serves. It was through his gumption and my prod in the right direction that one of Canada's largest hip hop festivals was born. I was tasked with creating the name and the branding with a brief from a team of fesitval directors. They wanted something that represented the old and the new. With a list of 50+ artists and sponsors, it's crucial to create systems to manage information and make it more digestible. I then created Facebook event pages for each of the elements of the programming, using colours and themes from the overall design.

The festival directors invited me back in 2019 to reimagine the festival creative in a familiar way. It was important to show the faces of the artists represented in the programming. In Manitoba, there isn't much urban music to learn about and support; so events like this are crucial to growing the scene in younger audiences. That educated the design choices.
